Mine owners expected to fund safety measures

Beijing has ordered coal mine owners to quickly improve safety conditions, state media reported, citing a senior State Council official. Mine owners will contribute about US$0.241.20 per ton of coal to a fund used to improve work safety. Coal mine owners are also expected to pay into an ecological fund that seeks to offset the environmental damage caused by the mining. The measure, part of the government's policy package, comes after three recent major accidents that killed about 450 miners.
