Canada's New Democratic Party called on the minority Liberal government to review the proposed sale of Canadian mining giant Noranda Inc to state-owned China Minmetals Corp. With a current stock-market value of about C$6.7 billion. The deal would make it the biggest in Canadian mining history and China's biggest investment in Canada. The NDP, Canada's socialist party, wants the review in light of China's "shabby" human rights record. It also wants parliament to study the employment impact the sale would have on Noranda's operations around the country.
