Minmetals to invest $148m in Jiangxi projects

China Minmetals is seeking to invest US$148 million in rare earths processing projects over the next two years to gain mining rights in the Ganzhou, Jiangxi province, state media reported. The Guanzhou municipal government issued a document in 2008 stating that firms investing more than RMB1 billion (US$148 million) in the city over three to five years would be eligible for mining rights, but deal is pending approval by local authorities. The city has some 2.89 million tons of ion-absorbed mineral types, and owns 88 of China’s 104 mining licenses for rare earths.
