The number of mainland mobile phone users, the world's largest, has grown to 383 million, up 14% from 2004 numbers, state media reported. This translates to 29.1 mobile phone users for every 100 people. The volume of mobile phone text messages being sent in China has also surged, rising at an annual rate of 40% to 246.6 billion in the first 10 months of this year.
