The number of mobile phone users in China increased by 5m a month during the first 10 months of 2001 to reach 136m at the end of October, according to the Ministry of Information Industry. The number of fixed-line subscribers stood at 174.6m. Business volume in the telecoms sector was 23.5 per cent higher in the first 10 months of the year than in the same period of 2000.
