Danish shipping company AP Moller has formed a joint venture container terminal management company with the Port of Shanghai Authority. The new company will manage four berths in phase four of Waigaoqiao Container Terminals. Moller has contributed 49 per cent of the registered capital of Shanghai Hudong Container Terminal Management. Its container carrier subsidiary Maersk Sealand is a major customer of Waigaoqiao.
Until now, Li Ka Shing's Hutchison Port Holdings has dominated foreign investment in China's port sector, having taking equity stakes in a number of sea ports including Shanghai and Shenzhen.
