Beijing has called all residents to prepare for at least one more day of smog and high pollution levels, following record readings on January 12, Bloomberg reported. Government cars have been ordered off the road and officials have closed factories, while online sellers of face masks reported “overwhelming” demand on Tuesday. It is the 18th day this month that pollution monitors have indicated hazardous air quality levels, according to a US embassy pollution monitor. Premier Wen Jiabao called for action in response to the pollution on Tuesday, including measures to accelerate industrial restructuring and conserve energy, The Wall Street Journal reported.
