More than 100 buried in landslide

Over 100 people were buried or trapped in a landslide in Guizhou province Monday, reported the AFP. Heavy rains have wreaked havoc through China’s south, killing 235 people this month, 379 people this year, and affecting almost 69 million in total. The latest incident in the village of Dazhai, Guizhou province is one of the worst single disasters yet. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called on rescuers to attempt to save those who may still be alive. The National Meteorological Center forecast continued heavy rainfall and cautioned that the storms, which have forced the evacuation of 4.7 million people in the last two weeks, will not come to a quick conclusion.
