Motorola signed deals with China Mobile for cellular network upgrades and expansions worth US$431 million in the first half of the year, AP reported. The number was up from the US$394 million in contracts Motorola signed with China Mobile in the same period last year. All the contracts were for equipment using the GSM mobile telephony standard. Meanwhile, Japanese electronics maker Sharp Corp said it plans to sell as many mobile phones in China in two years as it does in Japan by launching lower-priced phones in addition to existing high-end models. The company sold 13 million phones in Japan in the year ending March 2008.
