Star TV, a wholly owned subsidiary of News Corp. has said China Mobile’s mobile Internet users would be able to download music and vote for their favorite songs. The service will be supported with video clips and songs provided by Star TV’s popular music channel, Channel [V].
This comes after the visit of the amazing Wendi Deng, wife of Rupert Murdoch, to Beijing, to negotiate the formation of a Chinese joint venture for MySpace, the popular online News Corp. social networking website.
Earlier this year, Rupert Murdoch conceded defeat in his plan to enter China’s tightly regulated satellite television market, selling News Corp.’s stake in Phoenix TV. His retreat made way for China Mobile to take its place in August as the No. 2 shareholder in the popular Hong Kong-listed Chinese satellite channel.
The Phoenix sale reduced News Corp.’s broadcasting presence in China to international hotels in Guangdong province near Hong Kong.
