A China version of MySpace, the social networking website, will launch in months, Reuters reported. News Corp, which owns the site, will have a stake of less than 50% in the China venture, which includes International Data Group Technology Venture Investment as a partner.
The companies are now applying for an internet services license from the government. News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch's wife, Wendi Deng, will probably sit on MySpace China's board, while a former Microsoft executive, Luo Chan, is a contender for chief executive. Murdoch has in the past said he "hit a brick wall" while trying to expand the scope of his satellite television channel broadcasts in China.
