In a first, environmental authorities named and shamed 10 cities with the worst air pollution in the country. Linfen, Yanquan and Datong, all in central Shanxi province topped the list of 113 mainland cities assessed last year by the State Environmental Protection Administration. Cities in Henan, Gansu, Hebei, Hunan and Shaanxi provinces were also named. Wang Jirong, the administration's deputy head, said the cities must act to improve the situation.
