Nanjing officials ousted in crackdown

The deputy mayor of Nanjing was among 21 officials targeted in a citywide crackdown on cadres holding posts in both the private and public sectors, according to a South China Morning Post report citing mainland media. Deputy Mayor Chen Weijian was ordered to resign from his post as chairman of the Nanjing Chemical Industry Park, the report said. In 2003 the Beijing central government ordered so-called "red-hat" officials to chose between their state posts and private sector jobs, saying that holding positions in both could cause conflicts of interest and nurture corruption.
