Nationwide property registration system announced

Beijing announced a national property registration system on Monday, the rules of which will take effect on March 1, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing a document published on the central government’s website. The rules, which require all levels of government to share information to ensure comprehensive coverage of home ownership records, could help control speculation in the property market and eventually aid in implementing a property tax. However, the information will be available primarily for internal government use, with only limited public access.
