Tim Chen, the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) China’s chief executive officer, said the NBA may benefit from China’s stimulus package, Bloomberg reported. China’s US$585 billion of extra spending includes funds for sports-related infrastructure, leading local governments to approach the NBA about managing future stadiums. Last year the NBA formed a venture with AEG, a unit of Anschutz to design, market and operate basketball arenas in China, including an 18,000-seat entertainment center in Shanghai. Chen said four or five other Chinese cities have expressed interest. “Our issue is how to get the joint venture to step up quickly to handle all these,” said Chen.
