Beijing will likely get a second international airport within the next 10 years, senior aviation officials told state media. Current plans are to build the new facility within the Beijing municipality, around 90 kilometers southwest of the existing Beijing Capital International Airport and close to the city's Daxing District, an official from the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China told state media. Work is already underway on a third terminal at the Beijing Capital Airport, but even with the new terminal the airport is expected to reach its capacity of 60 million passengers per year by 2015. With demand forecast to reach 100 million by 2024, work on the new airport, with a capacity of 50 million passengers, is expected to begin in 2010.
