The debut of the Galaxy Macau Phase II on Wednesday marked the first casino opening in the territory since the start of China’s ongoing anticorruption campaign, The New York Times reported. The new casino represents a departure from the high-roller focus of its predecessors, and is the first in a wave of new resorts – backed by US$20 billion from Macau’s six casino operators – that developers hope can transform it into a top destination for China’s middle class. But local lawmaker Antonio Ng Kuok Cheong said he was concerned the territory might not be able to attract enough mainland Chinese tourists to fill the new resorts.
