Kaunas airport in Lithuania now has an air freighter link with Shanghai. Kaunas International Airport Lithuania is the second busiest civil airport in Lithuania after Vilnius airport and the fourth busiest in the Baltic states. It can handle planes up to the size of a Boeing 747, Antonov An-124 or similar jets.
Hoptrans Logistics, the principal cargo handling agent at Lithuania’s Kaunas airport, has begun a regular charter service to Shanghai with an IL-76 freighter.
The company is reported as saying it is marketing Kaunas as an alternative hub in the Baltic States to more expensive and congested northern Europe airports.
AirCargoWorld reports that in addition to its own terminal, Hoptrans operates an extensive road feeder fleet providing forwarders with air cargo distribution to Italy, France, Spain and Russia.
