A report by NBC News citing an unnamed official claims that previously undisclosed hacking attacks on top administration officials in the United States can be traced to China, The Guardian reported. The attacks – among the more than 600 hacks attributed by officials to hackers working for the Chinese government – sought personal email info from top administration officials and began in 2010. NBC’s source said the hacks were still ongoing but would not name any of the officials targeted. The report comes days after news that an e-mail phishing attack, purportedly sponsored by Russia, exposed the data of about 4,000 civilian and military employees at the Pentagon.
