A new list of sectors of the economy that are closed to foreign investment will come into effect on April 4, Xinhua said. The number of sectors barred to foreign investment has fallen to 75 from 112 in 1997.
Those sectors still closed to foreign investors include strategic parts of the economy, such as power grids and aviation transport control. Broadcasting and television remained closed and production and development of genetically modified seeds has been added to the list.
