The new chief of the World Health Organization plans to use her leverage on Beijing to combat major health threats. Margaret Chan, the former Hong Kong health chief whose candidacy was officially sponsored by Beijing, said: "I no longer carry my nationality on my sleeve. I leave it behind." Chan was endorsed by more than two-thirds of the 193 member states to win the top spot at the WHO, making her the first Chinese national to head a United Nations agency. "I will speak up is some members states need to strengthen their effort and in this case if you are referring to China I will definitely speak out and urge China… to share information," Chan said.
