Mobile phone giant Nokia said Wednesday that it will set up a joint venture to offer mobile services in China, the Wall Street Journal reported. The Finnish company’s partner in the project is New Alliance, part of Shanghai Alliance Investment, a Chinese investment and financial services provider. The 50-50 joint venture, known as Nokia Alliance Internet Services, will launch in January and involve around 80 people. "As Nokia is entering the services business in China, establishing this joint venture is a natural step to help us bring locally relevant mobile services to Chinese consumers," said Niklas Savander, Nokia executive vice president of services. He added that the joint venture offers an opportunity to utilize Ovi, the company’s platform for internet-based services, in China. Nokia also plans to work with local content developers on new applications.
