Canadian telecom giant Nortel announced a contract with China Telecom to expand the operator's data networks across southern and eastern China. China Telecom, the country's largest fixed line operator, will use Nortel's optical line systems to expand its backbone networks in the cities of Wuhan, Guangzhou, Changsha, Fuzhou, Shanghai, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Hefei, Chongqing, and Chengdu. Nortel said the new network would allow China Telecom to expand its business by offering advanced Internet protocol data services. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
