North Korea announced on Wednesday it had completed its first nuclear bomb test in four years, likely pressuring the US to ratchet up calls on China to rein in its unruly neighbor, The Financial Times reported. “This is going to strengthen the hands of those in the Chinese leadership who believe Pyongyang is becoming more of a liability than an asset,” said Paul Haenle of the Carnegie Tsinghua Centre in Beijing. “This is a test for China; I do not think they’re going to abandon North Korea. But if they do not act they also face policy responses by other countries that may not be in their interest.”
