Official talks between China’s president Xi Jinping and Japan’s prime minister Shinzo Abe could soon take place, Reuters reported, citing a Japanese official. Abe called on Friday for an unconditional meeting between Japan and China as soon as possible. While Abe’s proposal initially drew a cool reaction from Beijing, adviser Isao Iijima said Chinese leaders were considering the summit and he believed they would respond positively. Iijima said he met senior officials close to President Xi on a secret visit to Beijing this month.
