Official: No time for detailed manufacturing data

A Chinese official said on Thursday that industry-specific details were missing from the June purchasing managers’ index (PMI) data release, a key gauge of manufacturing, because there was “limited time” to analyze large volumes of information, Bloomberg reported. The PMI was released on July 1 with five of twelve sub-indices, including one for steel, omitted without an explanation. Cai denied that the information was excluded because it showed economic weakness.
