State media said government officials would be required to declare their income and assets under a new civil service law expected to be adopted this week. Reports noted that the new rules, aimed at stepping up anti-corruption efforts, will not likely deal with how assets are to be declared. One Beijing academic suggested that the law should cover all assets of officials and their family members, and provide for all information to be made public via the Internet and other media.
