Oil chief moves into Hainan politics

The chairman of China National Offshore Oil Corporation resigned after being chosen for a senior position in the government of Hainan, reported the Financial Times. Wei Liucheng, head of the offshore oil group's Hong Kong-listed CNOOC Ltd, was named deputy head of the Communist Party in Hainan and nominated for the post of provincial governor. This followed his appointment as an alternate member of the ruling party's Central Committee last November.
