One million green cars by 2015

China is aiming for annual sales of 1 million new-energy cars by 2015. The target of 20,000 green vehicles for public transport by the end of this year seems very likely. And a million new energy vehicles a year, with a target of 100 million by 2020, is possible depending on the subsidy.
As of October this year China has set aside RMB970 million (US$146 million) on subsidies for new energy vehicles.
By 2020, China is aiming to reduce energy consumption by 50%, and slash fuel consumption to 5 liters per 100 kilometers of travel.
However, buyers will still need some convincing to switch to green cars.
English People’s Daily Online reported an auto consumer as saying, "The current electric car market is not mature enough. I’m concerned about the costs of using it and the convenience of car maintenance. So right now I will not consider buying it."
