Online game operator NetEase reported higher-than-expected fourth-quarter revenues and profits on strong results from its online advertising business, Reuters reported. Net revenue in the fourth quarter was US$183.1 million, up from US$116 million in the fourth quarter of 2008. Fourth-quarter profits fell slightly year-on-year, to US$83.8 million from US$84.4 million. While online gaming remains the main focus of NetEase’s business, the company saw online advertising revenues double to US$26.9 million from the previous quarter. NetEase is expected to benefit from the announcement earlier in February that it would be permitted to operate the latest version of online game World of Warcraft in China.
