Online bookings boom

30 million Chinese booked travel services and accommodations online last year, representing a 77.9% increase over 2008.

Recent figures indicate travel will be a very important digital market segment in China in 2010. Last year it grew 77.9% over 2008.
According to the China Internet Information Center (CNNIC), the growth rate exceeds online stock trading (67%), online banking (62%), and online shopping (46%), and was second only to online payments, which experienced 81% year on year growth in 2009.
SomBiz reports that many users of the internet in China are now designing and managing their own travel itineraries instead of depending on travel agents.
