China and Pakistan will sign infrastructure and energy project agreements worth US$28 billion during President Xi Jinping’s visit to Islamabad this week, Bloomberg reported, citing Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal. The contracts will be part of the US$45 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor running from China’s Xinjiang province to the China-funded port of Gwadar on the Arbian Sea in Pakistan. Under the plan, Chinese firms will invest US$22.5 billion in coal-fired, wind, hydro and solar energy projects in Pakistan, and China will also provide concessional loans for infrastructure projects, Iqbal said.
