Party may hold annual closed-door leadership summit in Beidaihe early

The annual closed-door leadership summit of the Communist Party in Hebei province’s Beidaihe may have been moved up to next week, South China Morning Post reported, citing unnamed sources. The move may have been prompted by the intensity of China’s economic slowdown, the ongoing stock market turmoil and President Xi Jinping’s scheduled visit to the United States in Setpember. One source said Beidaihe officials and hotel staff were gearing up for the reception in early August, with hotels usually set aside for officials to be cleared by this weekend, at least a week earlier than in previous years.
