Peace Hotel shortly to reopen

The Fairmont Peace Hotel is due to theoretically reopen on March 28 after three years’ restoration but specific plans are still under discussion.

The Peace Hotel has been beautifully restored. With beauty comes price. Fairmont Hotels and Resorts will manage the 104-year-old hotel and may raise the daily standard room price to $300.

Shanghai Daily reports the north wing in Nanjing Road East, first built in 1929, will keep its original appearance while the south wing will become a Swatch store.
It is not known whether the Swatch store will contain the famous (notorious?) Jazz Band which has existed since before the declaration of the People’s Republic in 1949. The average age of the musicians is 78.

Being in the Swatch building they may well play in time. This will be a first for them.
