Pentagon: China stepping up intelligence gathering

A new report from the Pentagon says China is using multiple methods including cyberespionage to rapidly modernize its military and gain the upper hand in any regional crisis, Financial Times reported. The report paints China has a highly organized force, using multiple means of intelligence gathering – from state owned enterprises, students on academic exchanges, to hacking – against US defense interests. While the US government has long suggested that China is a formidable cyber foe, this report calls out China directly. The Pentagon believes that the PLA’s modernization is not to prepare for a clash with the US, but rather gain the upper hand in a conflict with Taiwan.
