Pingtan Island has a special economic zone

Pingtan IslandFujian provincial authorities have announced that  Pingtan Island will be transformed into a special economic zone — which is not surprising news — in order to promote industrial cooperation with Taiwan, which is something of a stride into the future.
Pingtan Island is the fifth largest island in China, 28 km from Fuzhou, which is the capital of Fujian province, and is only 120 km from Taiwan.
At the moment Pingtan Island is very much a tourist destination. The coast of the whole island twists and turns, the shore line is 408 kilometers long, more than 100 kilometers of it is high-quality sea sandy beaches. 
The three great ocean strand sandy beaches are Changjiangao, Haitan Bay and Tannan Bay. They are in the north, east and south of Pingtan Island, the sand quality is fine and white, the sea water is crystal clean and deep blue. 
The most popular beaches for wind surfing and wave catching are along Tannan Bay and Haitan Bay. These sandy beaches are about 40 kilometers long. The other beaches are also nice and beautiful, though some are primitive and full of granite rock formations.The government is going to build a special economic zone to enhance cross-straits industrial cooperation.
Fuzhou, China states that Fujian has strong cultural and business ties with Taiwan. More than 80% of Taiwanese can trace their ancestral roots to Fujian. Now, there are more than 100,000 Taiwan businessmen and women who live permanently in Fujian.
