Pipeline leak damages Yellow River tributary

A construction accident last Wednesday damaged a China National Petroleum Corporation pipeline near the Wei River in Shaanxi province, creating a leak that released approximately 150,000 liters of diesel into the tributary of the Yellow River, the BBC reported. Pollution from the leak has been found 33 kilometers downstream, and locals in affected areas have been warned not to drink from the river. Millions rely on the Yellow River as a source of drinking water. Although the accident occurred last week, it has only recently been publicized as hundreds of emergency workers have employed floating dams and solidifying agents to attempt to minimize the damage before it reaches the Yellow River.
