Plan for second Beijing airport reborn

Beijing has unveiled plans for a second international airport to be built after the 2008 Olympics, state media reported. Aviation officials are now looking for the best site, with potential locations under consideration including a spot to the south of the city or in nearby Hebei province. The plan is still in its infancy and authorities have only gone as far as considering sites. The search for a location for a new airport was originally launched in 2002 but it was put aside when the expansion of the existing Capital Airport started. The expansion project includes the construction of a third terminal and another runway and it should be completed in 2007.
