China National Offshore Corp has revealed plans to build a 2,100km natural gas pipeline linking Guangxi and Shanghai, where it will meet PetroChina's west-east project. Company chairman Wei Liucheng told People's Daily that the coastal pipeline, which would pass through the cities of Shenzhen and Fuzhou, could be completed in five years. Beijing wants to double the proportion of gas usage in the energy mix from 3 per cent to 6 per cent by 2010.
China National said it would aim to begin construction soon after its liquefied natural gas regasification terminals in Guangdong and Fujian come on stream. China National is the parent of CNOOC, the mainland's principal offshore oil producer.
