Sony finally launched its PlayStation 2 game console in China, but only in the cities of Shanghai and Guangzhou.
The PS2 was originally scheduled to debut in China in December 2003 in the two cities, as well as in Beijing, Shenzhen and Chengdu, but it delayed the release indefinitely, citing "environmental" factors. Analysts speculated that piracy concerns in China were the prime reason behind the launch's postponement.
