Police arrest 60,500 people in multi-city anti-drug sweep

Police in China seized a total of 11.14 tons of narcotics and arrested a total of 60,500 people in an anti-drug campaign running from late September to December, The Guardian reported, citing state media. Synthetic substances such as ecstasy, methamphetamine and ketamine have grown in popularity in China in tandem with the rise of greater disposable incomes. Police handled 52,800 drug crime cases in the multi-city sweep, according to a report from Xinhua that quoted the Ministry of Public Security. The “Ban drugs in hundreds of cities” campaign will last until April.
