A village in Guangdong where a teenage girl is said to have been clubbed to death during a protest over land seizures was being heavily policed after news reports claimed that local residents were planning to continue demonstrations, according to AP. The girl was reportedly killed by police as they clashed with residents of Sanjiao village on the weekend in protests over inadequate compensation for farmland taken for industrial use. State media has denied anyone was killed in Sanjiao, but Hong Kong news reports claim the dead girl’s parents have been paid up to US$25,000 to say their daughter died of a heart attack.
