The Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) and the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) announced the creation of a new database to monitor Chinese exporters to improve enforcement of environmental regulations, state media reported. No date was given for when the database will go into operation, although MOFCOM and SEPA issued a notice that exporters that seriously violate environmental rules risk being banned from trading abroad for one to three years. The two agencies also set a timeframe for phasing out inefficient factories to save energy and reduce pollution.
