The cargo transport volume at Shanghai's Pudong International Airport reached fifth in the world in the first quarter of 2007, according to statistics released by Airports Council International (ACI), Shanghai Securities News reported (in Chinese). Pudong's cargo throughput reached 1.12 million metric tons in the first half of the year, up 16.3% over last year. The airport has over 700 cargo flights per week, accounting for 15% of its total flight traffic. The growth of the airport's cargo volum has been attributed to the continuing economic development of the Yangtze River Delta, for which Shanghai serves as an export hub.
