Qiu Baoxing, vice minister of MOHURD (Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development), on China’s rapid rate of construction:
"China has the largest number of new buildings constructed annually; every year there are 2 billion square meters of new construction.  This consumes 40% of the cement and steel materials in the world, but the average building life in China is just 25-30 years."
