Doubts are being raised over the box-office take of China’s record-breaking movie Monster Hunt, The Financial Times reported, citing state media. The film had collected RMB2.43 billion (US$379 million) in ticket sales during an August-September run in theaters, just barely edging out the Hollywood blockbuster Furious 7. In August reports surfaced of theaters scheduling screenings of the film in the middle of the night with multiple showings on the same screen. The movie’s distributor has now acknowledged giving away 40 million tickets during the final 15 days of the movie’s run, accounting for virtually all the film’s earnings for that period, according to mainland newspaper National Business Daily.
