The mainland’s media regulator ordered the website of the 21st Century Business Herald, one of the country’s best-respected business papers, to shut down Thursday in addition to revoking the publishing permit for the magazine Moneyweek–both publications affiliated with the Southern Media Group, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing state media. Xinhua had previously claimed that the website had extorted tens of millions of dollars from Chinese companies, publishing negative reports about the firms, which would then sign advertising contracts with the site, which would then delete the reports.
