State media reported that Shenzhen-based TV and handset maker Konka Group is in partnership talks with an unnamed foreign home appliance giant. Both Netherlands-based Philips and Korea's LG group have been mentioned as the mystery company in question. If a deal proceeds which could be by the end of August the combination could make for the world's second-largest TV manufacturing venture after the recent tie-up between China's TCL Corp and Thomson of France. Konka is China's third-largest color TV maker and second-largest handset manufacturer.
