The government is seeking tip-offs in nine categories, including mobile WAP sites that contain obscene material and sites that provide information deemed harmful to young people.
The Wall Street Journal Blog reported Chinese internet users reacted warmly to this new measure.
Within the first day, the reporting center of the Internet Society of China received 13,000 tips through the web and 500 phone calls which is more than ten times the usual number. And so far, 3,500 tips have been confirmed.
