The China Internet Illegal Information Reporting Center (CIIRC) criticized Google for allowing access to pornographic materials through its Chinese website, the Wall Street Journal reported. The CIIRC, a non-governmental agency backed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said Google was "disseminating large amounts of pornographic and vulgar information" through its Google.cn page, although it provided no examples. A Google spokesman said the company was "working to deal with pornographic content… on the Web in China." Beijing has been ratcheting up anti-pornography efforts recently, requiring all new computers sold after July 1 to include internet-filtering software.
